I confess that I haven’t read The Odyssey. So, I don’t know how true to the literary work this film is, or why Emily Wilson, the translator of the version that inspired Christopher Nolan, distanced herself so much from this film. I have to take it just as I found it. I didn’t notice the 3-hour length of the movie at all, so I must have been engaged pretty much the whole way through. I had heard that the film was very loud, but there was only one part where I blocked my ears because it was too noisy. However, I didn’t really like the 21st century ruminations on civilizational collapse and survival at the end (although I gather than Homer’s Odyssey tends to fizzle out at the end as well). I would have loved to have seen this at an IMAX cinema but it’s pretty heavily booked out. I enjoyed it
