This movie is about the Arab Uprising between 1936-1939, as increasing numbers of Jewish ‘settlers’ were moving onto Palestinian land. With my shaky grasp on Palestinian history (to my shame), I wondered if this was the Nakbah, but that’s a different thing, which occurred when the state of Israel was declared. I was surprised that the BBC and British Film Institute were involved with this because the Brits certainly don’t come out covered in glory. I liked the way that they used old photographs and colourized newsreel footage then blended it in with CGI and current-day-filming. It was excellent
